Barbara Anne Brothers (Kost) of rural Mound Valley, Kansas, passed away peacefully on the night of February 3, 2025. She was born in Oakley, KS, on August 9th, 1947, to Kenny and Patricia Kost. Barb, as most knew her, is leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness that touched all who knew her.
Barb attended elementary school and high school in Oakley, KS and earned the honor of valedictorian of her class in 1965 from Oakley High School. After graduation, Barb attended the University of Kansas, where she received her bachelor's degree, with dual majors in accounting and business administration. Her educational achievements were a testament to not only her intelligence, but to her drive and motivation as a student and person. Her education formed the foundation for her long and accomplished career in accounting and business management.
She was a cherished member of the United Methodist Church in Mound Valley, Kansas, where her warm smile and kind heart left an indelible mark on those around her. She found no greater joy in life than being surrounded by her grandchildren, embracing every opportunity to create treasured memories with them.
Barbara is survived by her beloved husband, Mark Brothers, and their sons, Jeffrey Brothers and Michael Brothers and his wife, April. She took immense pride in her role as a grandmother to Corbyn, Stephen (SJ), Maddy, Austin, Kylie, Cayden, and Mason. She leaves behind a sister, Judy, and her husband George Collins, a brother, Kenny Kost, as well as four nieces, two nephews, and many friends who will forever remember her warmth and generosity.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenny Kost and Patricia (Riggs) Kost, who undoubtedly shaped the loving and caring woman she became.
A memorial service to honor Barbara's life will be held on February 7, 2025, at Potts Chapel in Cherryvale, Kansas, starting at 10:00 AM and concluding at 11:00 AM. The family invites all who knew her to join in celebrating her extraordinary life.
Barbara Anne Brothers will be deeply missed but forever remembered for her loving spirit and the joy she brought into the lives of those around her.
