Betty Jean Preble, 93, Cherryvale, Kansas passed away on Friday, June 9, 2016 at Windsor Place in Coffeyville, Kansas. Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 17, 2016 at Fredonia Cemetery, Fredonia, Kansas with Reverend James Preble officiating. Friends may register on Thursday, June 16, 2016 from 1:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting visitors from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., at Potts Chapel of Cherryvale. Memorial contributions may be made to New Hope Christian Church and may be left with the Chapel.
Betty was born April 9, 1923 in Moberly, MO; at an early age the family moved to Fredonia, Kansas where Betty was raised and attend and graduated from Fredonia High School. Following high school Betty married John H. Ryf and to this union 4 daughters were born. Betty followed her husband who was enlisted in the military and moved to many different places. She worked in the aircraft industry as a Rosie the riveter for a few months in 1942 in San Diego California. The couple later divorced and Betty moved back home to Fredonia, Kansas. While Betty was back home in Fredonia, Kansas she met and married Kenneth C. Preble on April 23, 1952 in Bentonville, Arkansas. The couple made their home in Fredonia, Kansas and to this union 2 sons were born. Later the couple divorced but still remained lifelong friends. Following the divorce from Kenneth Betty moved to Cherryvale, Kansas where she lived until failing health forced her to move to Windsor Place in Coffeyville, Kansas.
Betty attended New Hope Christian Church, she enjoyed crafts and crocheting she loved to fish and volunteered playing the piano at local nursing homes for many years. Betty was musically talented and could play several instruments and passed that one to some of her children also. Betty had a fondness for kitten's and would feed and care from many stray cats.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her ex-husband and friend Kenneth Preble, three brothers, and one grandchild. Those left to honor Betty's memory include two sons Kenneth ( Maryann) Preble, Cherryvale, KS; Rick Preble, Tulsa, OK; four daughters, Patsy Laws, Modesto, CA; Sharon Adams, Ponca City, OK; Carolyn Sue Ryf, Emporia, KS; Linda Kay (Raymond) Shoaf, Bartlesville, OK; 15 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, 24 great great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Arrangements by Potts Chapel of Cherryvale.
