Joyce M. Long was reunited with the love of your life on February 27th, 2022. Joyce was born on October 1, 1934, in Cherryvale, Ks to Shorty (J.W.) and Maxine (Timmons) Blake. Joyce graduated from Cherryvale High School and later went on and got her BA from Long Beach State University. At the age of 13 she told her friend that she was going to marry the guy delivering the groceries, and on July 24th, 1952, in Yuma, Az she married Marvin Long of Cherryvale, that little delivery boy. They made their home in California where they had 2 children Diane and John. After they moved back home to Cherryvale, she started her lengthy teaching career in English where she enriched many lives. She was very proud that she had taught or subbed in every class pre-K through college. While continuing her education she became a prolific writer and authored 8 books. She was honored by the State of Kansas House of Representatives for her work on establishing the recognition of Frank E. Bellamy of Cherryvale, Ks as the author of The Pledge of Allegiance. She served as President of District Three Authors Club; she was also a member of Daughters of the Nile. Joyce and Marvin enjoyed a long life together with many hobbies including camping, square dancer, traveling, Masonic activities, playing games, and spending time with friends and family.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, her best friend and sister Margie Trotter of Edmond, OK; her husband Marvin, daughter Dianne, son John, Grandson Rusty Howard, Great Grandchildren Harli & Hayze Howard, and Gryphon and Greenliegh Houghs.
She is survived by her daughter in law Viola Long, Grandchildren Jason Niemier and wife Mellissa, Amanda Nunez, Katy Long-Knight and husband Crispy, Jonathan Long, Great Grandchildren Cooper Niemier and wife Makayla, and Carson Niemier. The family will greet friends and family at Potts Funeral Home in Cherryvale, Ks Wednesday, March 2nd from 5-7 and a memorial service will be Thursday, March 3rd at 11 at Potts Funeral Home also in Cherryvale. In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorials be made to the Cherryvale Public Library in Joyce’s name.
