Kelly Sourk

October 17, 1970 — January 12, 2022

Kelly Eugene Sourk, age 51, of rural Coffeyville, died of COVID complications on Wednesday afternoon, January 12, 2022, at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. Kelly was born in Parsons, Kansas on October 17, 1970 to Carolyn (Jewett) Cornett and Tom Cornett.  He graduated from Cherryvale High School in 1989 and subsequently completed a five-year IBEW electrical apprentice program in Topeka, Kansas. Kelly worked as an industrial and commercial electrician until his early retirement from Buzzichem Cement Plant in Independence, Kansas. His employers knew him to be a dependable, diligent, and capable worker who could be relied upon to solve problems and stay on schedule.

Kelly was known as an ornery, funny, and good-hearted man by his family and friends. He was generous with his time and his many talents. He took care of his mother, protected his sisters, and made his nieces laugh. Most importantly, he took them all fishing. He was an honest man with simple desires such as a pond to fish at and a quiet farm to live on. Kelly was an electrician by trade, but he retired early to spend his last years living his dream of operating a family farm with his sister Tammy. He loved to grill and cook and kept his family well fed. He loved gardening and canning and was known for his salsa.   Although his time on the farm was brief, Kelly lived happily tending to his cows and chickens and doing other farm chores and projects that kept him busy. He lived peacefully with his dogs Jackson and Tutti and loved to watch the sunset over his fields. He loved to watch movies, and he was an avid reader and fisherman. He loved to cheer for the Chiefs and the Vikings, even when they lost.  Kelly was loved dearly by his family and friends who saw what a great man he truly was. He proved his strength up to the very end, and his family is proud to have called him our beloved son, brother, and uncle.

Surviving to cherish Kelly’s memory are his mother, Carolyn Sourk, of Cherryvale; his sister Tammy Huneycutt, of rural Coffeyville; and his sister, Sandy Burchett of Andover.  His nieces, Kylie Huneycutt and Elle Burchett, will sorely miss his smiles and his stories as well.

Private graveside services for immediate family will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at Fairview Cemetery in Cherryvale, Kansas under the direction of the Potts Chapel.  A Celebration of Life will be announced in Kelly’s honor at a later date.  In lieu of flowers and food, Kelly’s family suggests memorials, which can be sent to Potts Chapel, made out to Carolyn Sourk.
