Loretta Colene (Wadsworth) Ellis, Cherryvale, passed away Thursday, October 25, 2018 in Independence, Kansas. A celebration of life service will be held Thursday, November 1st, 2018 at 2:00pm at Potts Chapel of Cherryvale with Gerald Zuck officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 12:00-7:00pm, with family greeting friends 6:00-7:00pm. Burial will follow at the Mound Valley Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Cherryvale Fire Department and the Weir Baptist Kids Church Camp, 1148 NE. 103 Hwy, Weir, Kansas 66781.
Loretta C. Wadsworth was born on April 23, 1934 to Mayo Spike and Lena (Cox) Wadsworth. She was born in Mound Valley at her great-grandmother Scobey's home, north of the water plant. Loretta attended Mound Valley schools. She was employed as a telephone operator and a waitress. She worked at ACC in Independence for 27 years and retired from there. Loretta was an officer in the Fraternal Order of Eagles #411 of Parsons, Kansas, Cherryvale Ladies Civic Club serving as president for 7 years, a member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW #1186 since 1979 and was a charter member of the First Southern Baptist Church serving in many positions. She enjoyed teaching Sunday school and children's church and taking kids to church camp. She loved playing the piano at church and home, cooking, visiting friends, and collecting salt and pepper shakers.
She married Leon Ellis on December 30, 1950 in Miami, Oklahoma, they later divorced.
Survivors are 2 sons; Larry Ellis of Cherryvale and Kenneth Ellis of Independence, two daughters: Sara Plisek of Sycamore and Velma West of Cherryvale and numerous grand and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Jeanette and son Alan, and granddaughter Donna Plisek.
