Rita Searles

(Rita) J L Searles 90 of Cherryvale, KS, passed away Sunday July 3, 2016, at Cherryvale Nursing & Rehab in Cherryvale, KS.
A celebration of life service will be Monday, July 11, 2016 at 10:00 am at Potts Chapel of Cherryvale, KS, with Chaplain Jeff Owens officiating. The family will greet friends from 9:00am till service time at Potts Chapel in Cherryvale, KS.
Rita Searles was born March 21, 1926, in West Mineral, KS, the daughter of Clifford H. and Jessie (Getman) Cunningham. A few years later, the family moved to rural Parsons, KS. On March 26, 1934, Rita was united in marriage to William (Bill) A. Searles, Sr. and made their home in the same rural Parsons area. To this union were born 6 sons and 1 daughter. After the younger children were in high school, she worked as a Nurses Aid at Mercy Hospital in Independence, KS, for fifteen years. A few years after her marriage, Rita came to love the Lord with all her heart and faithfully served Him until her death. She was a member of the Bible Holiness Church at Parsons and later at Cherryvale.
Rita loved to garden and can the vegetables. She enjoyed making the children's clothes for school but her delight was to have the babies - especially the grandchildren -- around her to care for. Her cherished times were when she could gather her family around her and feel the warmth and love of being together.
She is survived by six sons, William A Searles, Jr. and wife Joyce of Port Angles, WA, Richard Searles and wife Gail of Parsons, KS, David Searles and wife Sharon of Cherryvale, KS, Martin Searles and wife Lynn of Buckeye, AR, Tim Searles and wife Susan of Cherryvale, KS, and Mark Searles and friend Vickie of Coffeyville, KS; one daughter Linda Spillman and husband Jerry of Cherryvale, KS; one brother, Robert Cunningham and wife Peggy of Altamont, KS; two sisters Billie Newberry of Garden City, KS, and Pat Fultz of Emmett, Idaho; 17 grandchildren, numerous great-children, nieces and nephews.
Rita was proceeded in death by her husband, William, on April 27, 2010, her parents, one sister, June Cooley and two brothers, Clifford and Roy Cunningham, one granddaughter Terri Kay Searles and a daughter-in-law, Terri Searles.
