Stephen Wayne Shook, 65, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2019 after a short and valiant battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife Frankie Shook of Cherryvale, KS, his twin sister, Pamela Torre of San Antonio, TX, nephew, Christopher Myers of Cherryvale, KS, stepson, Don Belnap of Salt Lake City, UT, stepdaughter, Terri Brown of Cascade, ID, 9 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and 2 stepsisters, Barbara June Rapp of Missouri, and Gay Lynn Shook of Hawaii. He is preceded in death by his father, George W. Shook and mother, Grace Esther Shook, and stepson, Rick Belnap.
Stephen was born on March 31, 1954 in Kansas City, MO. In 1972, Stephen enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served as an Air Police Officer in Japan and Korea during the Vietnam War in 1982. Upon his discharge, he pursued a career in law enforcement spanning 31 years throughout Cherryvale, St. John, Fredonia and Burlington Kansas. He loved his job, his family and his pets. He was very fond of history and passing along his knowledge to anyone that was interested. He loved bowling and participated in a local bowling league for many years. He was avid reader. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and was recently called to the Aaronic Priesthood.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting a donation be made to the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice. A celebration of his life will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Independence, Kansas, date pending. An inurnment will take place at Resthaven Cemetery in Wichita, Kansas.
